I have a good boat with a 888. I dont have the 888 leg. I also have a rotted boat with an alpha 1 early 1st gen. I am going to use the outrdive from the alpha. Can i use the trim pump and rams from the alpha and then toss the reverse lockout? What should i do with the purple wire going to it? what is the purpose of that valve? The rubber bushings on the outdrive side wont fit in the 888 rams so can i just switch the whole ram to the alpha ones? The alpha boat is an 83 century and the 888 in a 73 hydrodyne.

After reading this 7 time it appears you want to know if all the Alpha Trim Parts will work on the Alpha Drive. ???
I don't quite understand why you would ask the question, But Sure, Why Not??

I also do not understand what the "Reverse Lockout" is that you are referring too. A part of the 888?
Or do you mean the Shift Interrupter on the Alpha?
The purple wire is the power to the ignition, Do you have 2 wires?
A Photo might help.

take the complete Alpha setup (from coupler to prop) and install on the boat with the MC drive missing the leg.

Do i need to swap gimbal housings and transoms? The bellhousing and coupler is gone from the alpha. I dont have the alhpa shift plate/braket. (it sold with the motor.) The leg bolts on and shifts.

I don't know if the Bell-housings and Couplers are compatible, but without the Shift assembly you won't be able to control the shifting.
The shift cable is two pieces and, without the Interrupter switch, getting back into neutral, will be extremely difficult.
So at this point you do not have enough parts to make a working drive.

Yes, complete from the back of the block to the prop. Mixing and matching just makes a Frankenstein pile of parts that will be a nightmare

Thanks for the replies. My Hydrodyne 18 is operational.

Sorry if it wasn't clear orginally. right now i have the alpha drive and alpha trim rams and then all the rest of the 888 system drive belhousing forward and it is working. The trim has always been slow on the 888 even with its own rams. The 888 uses a hydraulic trim indicator (instead of potentiometers on the side of the gimbal ring) and a lockout valve on the shift plate (i believe it prevents fluid flow while in reverse.) What i would like to do is put the alpha pump in. Can I do that with the lockout valve and hyd. Indicator still in place? I want to know if the alpha pump will work in the 888s trim system. If it surely will not Ill just leave it be.

I dont believe the alpha transom plate and gimbal housing will work with the Ford engine belhousing or exhaust y pipe. Or the holes in the transom. I know mixing and matching isnt the greatest but its what i have to work with. The alpha stuff is from a 488 3.7l.
