Hi there. My trim pump will only work for leg down. So far I have checked and confirmed that:

- the helm switch is good (new)
- the pump is good (can be jumped for both up and down)
- the relays are good (swapped them and still same problem)

I am left thinking that I must have a bad wire or connection in the harness. There are 7 wires coming from the switch that go into a round plastic plug (6 around the circle and one larger pin in the middle). The centre pin and one of the outer pins are of a larger gauge and were not hooked to anything (a black centre pin and blue/brown outer pin). At this point I am unable to see where the harness is hooked up at the transom, but I only have two wires going to the pump.

Do you have any suggestions how to proceed next? I was thinking of trying to locate a new harness if possible to replace this one. If I can figure out the connections at the transom. Any ideas? Thanks.

If it does not go up when using the trailer button, then

Need a voltmeter and someone to help. Measure voltage on the small Blue/White wire on the relay when the up or trailer button is pressed.

If there is no voltage, then measure the red wire at the throttle handle switch, it should be full time 12V

If no voltage is there then check the connector by ringing out the wires

OK. Checked the blue/white connector at the trim pump and get a full battery reading. Also a full reading on the green wire with the other button So...I’m getting power to the connector for both, and the pump works both ways when I jump it, and both relays are OK because I swapped them and it worked. What now? I do hear a click at the relay when I press the “Up” button.

Checked the blue/white connector at the trim pump and get a full battery reading.

Check the ground wire on the up relay (one on top)
12V is applied to the Blue/White wire but relay does not energize. The relay has 4 connections

Small Blue/White from throttle button to one side relay coil
Small Black wire other side of relay coil to ground
Larger Blue/White to pump motor
Larger Red from main feed

The relays for my Volvo 5.7 are of the type in the link provided. That is with 5 connections, not four.

All have 5 connections, its just the normally closed contact (87a) is rarely used
