What increase in speed can I expect if I better adjust trim position of my outboard? Currently my outboard is in middle-central trim position (I didn't change factory adjusted trim position).
I have Honda BF20 with manual trim installed on small Quicksilver inflatable and no GPS (so I can't measure speed). :confused:

Re: Trim question

Josip

It's really hard telling what you could expect in speed by trimming out, if any. Just trim it out a little at a time. When it starts to ventilate, back in in one notch and you should be close to where trim is best. You should notice the difference if speed increases. Know anyone else who has a boat with a speedo or possibly a GPS you could borrow? Have them run along side you to verify speed.

Re: Trim question

Josip;

With manual trim everything is a compromise. Trimmed in close to the transom will help get the boat on plane easier and quicker. Trimmed out will help the boat increase speed, but it will be a problem getting on plane. In the center is - well its in the center.

We orgionaly designed Smart Tabs ( Automatic Trim Tabs) for inflatables, and they are still oone of the more popular sellers in our line. If you want to get both better planing, better acceleration, and more top end, plus better handling Use ST780-30 or ST980-30 depending on the length of your boat.

See this site (Mega Mall under engine - trim tabs, or do a search on Smart Tabs.
