When i put my boat in the water, i can trim the outdrive down with no problem, works every time, when i take the boat out and try to trim the outdrive up for the trailer all i hear is a clicking sound each time i hit the up trim button. the oil level is between the min and max on the reservoir. is the motor shot?

thanks!

Re: Trim question???

Sounds like relays, there should be an up set and a down set, sounds like you need a new relay.

Maybe wait for someone else to chime in but I am pretty sure that is the problem.

Re: Trim question???

i forgot to add, if i keep pushing the button it will eventually go up, and this happens with both the bottom on the throttle control and the button you push to trailer the outdrive.

this forum wont let me

Re: Trim question???

well I just had a similar thing happen to me I hit the up for the trim or I hit the up for the trailer and just clicking. My good friend a marine mechanic told me like a starter in a car if you hit the trim motor with a hammer with a little force it shall make it go up and down. I did this for a few times out till it would not go up at all got it in somehow with leaving any of my outdrive behind. Any way I needed to replace my trim motor he told me if I hear it clicking the relay is probably working and that it is my trim motor I replaced my trim motor for about $160 in parts and free labor again my good friend. When we took out my old trim motor the wires were all corroded off the post but he said that was my original trim motor my boat.It is a 1990 bowrider so it was time anyway in my mind. I hope this can help you good luck.
