Trim question?

Hey guys Im new to the inboard/outboard set-up. Stupid question, what does the trim up-down do? I have heard to reach a good riding plane with bow leveling but when I push the trim up/down on the trailer it operates the same way as the tilt up/down? does this change anything on the water.....

Below is a link to a Mercruiser owners manual. Look at page 32 under Power Trim and it will explain, with pictures, what the trim does to the boat. Basically, when you trim or tilt the drive down, it will push the bow of the boat down, when you either trim or tilt UP, it will let the bow of the boat come up.<br /><br /> http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Owner/gas/86017101.pdf
