Trim question

This is my first boat and I was told to store it with the trim down. Today I wanted to start it and let it run for a few so I could change the oil. When I click the key over I I realized it wouldn't trim up. It will go down and I know it goes up because when I bought it few weeks ago guy raised it after having it running for me to tow.

Am I doing something wrong? Also what is this trailer button on the throttle control? Does it have something to do with the trimming up? I want to raise it to get a cut down barrel under the drive to catch water because it has had antifreeze run through it when we did the test run and I also need to get that out before going to a lake. Attached a pic of the throttle control. Thank you for your time.

The up button will only raise the drive to a certain point, basically as high as you would want it in the water. To get it up further, like when you would put it on a trailer, you need to use the trailer button.

I see. thank you very much. I didn't want to start pushing buttons that I was unsure of and mess something up

Instead of running the motor to remove the A-F, pull the engine block drain plugs and the block cooling hoses and drain the A-F into the bilge and then into a container. You may be able to reuse it next year. Test it for effective antifreeze properties, before reuse.

Trim up is subject to the 'trim limit sensor' to prevent you from raising the drive too far out of the water when underway. Trailer bypasses the trim limit sensor. If trailer works and trim up does not, then check the solenoid. In fact, hit the trim-up very fast about 20-40 times. It will knock the corrosion off of the switch gate and may make a successful connection. Hit trim down and see if the trim motor is working at all. If you can hear the motor during trim down, but not trim up, it is the solenoid. If trailer works, but not trim up, it is probably the solenoid.

It is almost ALWAYS the solenoid.

I thought that if trailer works, but not trim up, the problem was with the trim limit switch. That's what it was with my boat.

I was under the impression that if the solenoid was bad, neither the trailer nor the trim up would work...

I haven't tried the trailer button yet. Gonna pull it out of the garage tmrw and see if that trailer button will work. I don't think it is down all the way and probably not far enough to use the up button. I will follow up when I get the boat out
