Motor is an 1988 Evinrude 150 model number E150STLCCA.
The other day as I was loading my boat after a day of fishing I was sitting the motor on the transom saver and the motor wouldn't tilt down. It would go up but not down, I thought the transom switch was going bad so I tried with the throttle switch and then the bow switch and the same thing. The trim motor was working fine. I finally got the motor down by rocking the transom switch back and forth. I got home and checked the switches(3) and they checked out. I cleaned the contacts on the relays and I switched them around to check if one is bad and it's working perfect (so far). I'm going replace the relays when I get back to the lake but I just wanted a second opinion to make sure I'm thinking right.

Some good testing. The relays are identical, so can be switched, esp for testing purposes. I'd recommend you replace both relays at the same time, then keep the good one as a spark in the glove box of the boat.

You probably cured your problem when you cleaned the contacts on the relays. I'd get at least one to keep for a spare.
