Hey guys, I have a 1993 force 120. The electric trim is working very slow and sometimes completely stops. I think it might be low on fluid. I'm wondering if anyone can help me locate where to put the fluid and what type. There is a place that unsrews on the reservoir and you can see down inside. It is bone dry. Is it supposed to be? I am not 100% sure that is the reservoir. It's a black tube located to the right of the engine with all the hydraulic hoses coming out.

Welcome to iboats.

Your reservoir may look a little different from the one below (#1) , but should be similar.

Lower the engine, open the hex cap on the side of the reservoir, fill it up.
Replace cap, cycle engine up and down several times.
Recheck the fluid level and fill it again.

Some of the units used transmission fluid, some used 30w motor oil.
Fill it with whichever one is in there.

Re: trim reservoir...

don't unscrew the top screws on the motor unit! i have the older version of that motor and have been tinkering with it. my wires were cut just about and inch out of the motor top. reluctantly i pulled the thing apart and was able to cut and re-solder the damn thing. there is 30 weight oil in that lower reservoir. undo the big screw, it should move by hand, and fill the thing until it's leaking out. just below that, still on the lower motor unit , there is a sloted screw to release the pressure. work the unit up and down by hand to circulate the fluid and then re-check to fill. once you've "primed it" by hand turn the screw on the pump motor so it can no longer be lifted. tilt trim should now work fine........if it still grinds or struggles then i would guess the motor brushes are worn or dirty and can be replaced with some effort!
