Trim "Sag": Is it the O-Rings?

My 1990 Merc 60hp "sags" slowly when in just about all up positions. I've heard that this could be due to the O-rings in the trim cylinder leaking.

Trim otherwise works fine up/down. Motor was rebuilt in spring '04 (before I bought it), maybe they missed this...

Thanks!

Mine does the same thing even after every o-ring in the entire assembly was replaced. We even replaced the check valves while we where in there. It seems the problem is internal to the pump assembly for which there is no rebuild kit. Replacing the entire assembly seems to be the only option.

This is from CU2NITE on a previous related post...

Might be worth a check...

"I have the same problem with mine. I did some research on it and found it is a problem with the seals. IF you look at a schematic the system has many many seals. There is a plastic screw plug on the side of the trim cylinder(right side when looking at the back of the motor). If you unscrew this plug(make sure motor is in full up position with LOCK LEVER ingaged)it will have three o ring seals on it. I changed mine and it almost cured the problem. It still slips, but very very slowly. As far as the other seals inside the trim I've never got to them. You need special tools to get at them. If you pull this plug you will loose some fluid so you will need to refill and bleed the system. The manual goes step by step on this procedure."

I had this problem, had to change O- Rings plus the slipper seals. Get someone to put the slipper seals in, they are tricky.
