Trim Sender Switch/Gauge

...helping a friend out with his '85 Wellcraft 190 American with the 470 mated to an Alpha One.
The hull only has the dual toggle switches for the trim and trailer positions, however the out drive has BOTH the Limit and Position switches (and they work!!). He has installed a Trim Position GUAGE (for whatever practical purpose it may serve) in the helm but neither of us can figured how to connect it to the switch.
I have reviewed several of the manuals, can find all kinds of information on setting the limit switch but nothing on connecting the Position switch.

Any experience out there?

Ayuh,... Connect power to the gauge, then the gauge to the sender.....
It's a variable sender, not a switch, like the trim limit...
