Can someone take a look at my troubleshooting steps to confirm that it is in fact the trim sender that needs replacement? Boat is in the water and to replace the sender, I have to schedule a haul out and want to confirm first before scheduling.
VP v8-300-CE
Drive is DPS-B1
EVC
Twin engine boat.
Issue is with port engine trim mechanism. Reading on the garmin volvo screen is "---" for the port engine. stbd engine is reading -5. Trim up/down works on the stbd engine.
Port engine trim sender troubleshooting:
1) Trim down works. Trim up does not from the binnacle. I understand this is a safety feature when the EVC can't read the trim position to avoid over trimming/tilting the drive unit.
2) Measured Ohms at Trim Sender side for both engines (Black wire and Black/Brown wire. Port resistance: 1.2 Ohms. Stbd: 0.8 Ohms (multimeter set to 2K Ohms).
3) Trim pump has power (port & stbd). Confirmed by disconnecting trim pump power connector and used the binnacle to confirm trim pump doesn't even power up/down. Reconnected trim pump power connection and I can hear the pump and drive unit go down slightly but not up.
4) Checked all trim fuses on engine (specifically the resettable 40AMP trim pump fuse) and all is good. No blown fuses.
Anything else to confirm that this is in fact a failed trim sender that's causing no reading and not being able to trim the port engine drive unit up?
Thanks in advance!
