Does anybody out there in "iboat land" have a good web site to order yamaha outboard engine parts. The trim sensor on my 2003 115hp 4 stroke is bad, the part# is 64E-83672-02-00. I called the number on the yamaha web site, their response was contact a yamaha dealer, not possible, there are no dealers in my part of the state of NV

thanks for the info, once I receive it, how hard is it to connect to a trim gauge, my boat has tilt/trim, no gauge. My goal to put a trim gauge on the boat.

easiest method is to use the digital multifunction yamaha tach and the trim harness. what method did you use to determine your trim switch is bad or is it just stuck?

by using the digital tach its all plug and play and you get visual indicates for the alarms and an hour meter.

The senor is not stuck, I observed the lever move up and down with the engine. The instructions that came with the gauge were pretty straight forward, "connect the pink wire from the sensor to the "s" connection the gauge, "i" to the ignition switch and "g" to a ground, nothing worked.

The repair manual shows 4 wires coming off the senor, red , black, grey and orange. On my senor I have only a red and black wire.

I only have room for more gauge on my instrument, though a trim gauge would be helpful.

the trim sensor on the engine is the 2 wire pink and black. the black has to go to ground, pink to the S term on the sender. you can test the sensor with an ohm meter.

I do apologize for all the questions, I thought this project would take a few minutes, not days. The red and black wire that comes off the sensor has a connector at the end, it also has a "grey" 2 inch wire hanging off the connector, what is that wire for?

This might sound like a stupid question, does the engine need to be running in order for the gauge to work. I connected the wires like the directions state, then I would push the trim button without the engine running, nothing happens to the gauge.

I am grasping at straws on this matter.....

follow the two wire harness from the trim sender to the inside of the engine cowl, unplug the pink and black 2 wire connector, insert the multimeter probes into the socket. all that sender is is a simple potentiometer.
measure the resistance at full down then observe it as you tilt it up.. the specs are in your manual.
but it should start low and increse in resistance as it trims up.
if it does the sender is working.

you wrote: "follow the two wire harness from the trim sender to the inside of the engine cowl, unplug the pink and black 2 wire connector" the pink and red wire is not connect to anything, they come off the sensor and lay inside the engine crowl.

The trim sensor does NOT have pink and red wires....you may be color blind(no offense intended). They have NEVER had pink and red wires....
