Trim stops stopped working

Hi guys,

I have a low hour 1978 Merc 470 with a One drive. The trim system works perfectly. Just recently, my full down (in) and full up (trailer) trim stops are not working. The pump continues to run if I hold the switch down. The max "trim" stop still works fine. Any suggestions what I should check first? I am guessing one of the position sensors on the drive but which one? I believe they are marked T.P. and T.L.

Any info would help.

Ok guys, help me out here. I know that my drive had trim stops that stopped the pump at full down and full up. I searched my service manual and all they talk about is the "trim" stop at 17 degrees up. (which works fine)

I dont understand why the "trim" stop would work and not the other 2 if they use the same trim limit switch. I do have 2 switches (one on each side of the drive) but I assume the other is the feed for the trim gauge.

My drive has an UP Trim stop but that's it (well it used to 20 years ago).

The Trailer Up and Down (I call it tilt up and down) do not have stops.

I stop when the pump makes a different noise.

Same with me, the only stop I have ever seen is the trim limit. There isn't even any mention of up or down stops in the manual either.

Just recently, my full down (in) and full up (trailer) trim stops are not working.

Seems you have a one of a kind up and down stop system, possibly built by a previous owner since it worked at one time.

Thanks guys. I am going to leave it the way it is since it is working perfectly according to the service manual.
