Greetings,

1982 Merc 898

I've finally gotten the time and motivation to dig into the trim problem I've been having.

I have the (standard for the time?) Quicksilver panel mount remote control with the trim toggle and the trailer button. The trim down button works as it should (as far as I know). The trim up button gets no response. The trailer button works from all positions and will limit out at the top.

A side problem is that my position sender wires are shredded, and needing replacement to get proper gauge read out. I've just been making due, carefully observing where my trim is. The limit switch looks to be ok. I plan to replace the position sender/wiring soon as well.

Back to the trim up button, where do I start troubleshooting this? Could it be a connection back at the trim unit? Is it possible that the limit switch is messed up thinking that it's all of the way up? I've never done anything trim related, so be gentle! Thanks for any help.

Ayuh,... The most common cause of your problem is the limit switch is Junk, or the wires are rotten...

Re: Trim Switch, Trailer Button Wiring Question

Could i diagnose this somehow with a meter?

Where do the positional, limit switch, and trim control wires all tie in? Would anyone out there have a schematic?

As trim goes up and down, I should be able to get a variable reading from the position sender (assuming the wiring gets done correctly) and an off-on-off reading from the limit switch, right?

Ayuh,.... At the black wires coming through the transom plate, By-pass it there...There's bullet connectors...

The factory Manuals are up in the Adults Only section at the top of this forum...
