I rounded the head on the trim tab bolt ended up drilling the bolt out. The rest of the bolt is seized in the trim tab so ill have to get a new one. I got a new mercury trim tab bolt and it looks like it came with red loc tight on the bolt my question is should I use the bolt like it is or clean the loc tight off the threads and use grease or anti seize? I run the boat in saltwater just about every weekend and I change the water pump every year so I want to make sure this bolt is not going to seize up again because drilling the bolt out is a real pain. THANKS

I'll take blue Locktite, or blue thread sealer sold at the auto parts stores under another label. Locktite is a registered trademark of a blue thread sealer. Blue is removable, gives you holding power and lubricant for the threads when you do remove it; you are not just running metal to metal. Been using it for 40 years.

Gee, if you take the anode off every year, I am surprised it seizes up. I would use the bolt as it came from Mercury. They know a bit about the issue.

The next time drill holes in the zinc and crack it off the bolt threads. It is a lot easier.
