Hi All
has anyone used those Nauticus Smart Trim tabs, they are like a shock absorber hooked to a trim tab? They have no power to them, you can set the pressure at 40, 60, or 80lbs.

Shadbones,
You can't set the pressure. You pick the pressure when you order and the shock comes in that pressure. Looking at your pic, looks like you would need the 80lb'er. I just ordered a set yesterday and have been eye balling the mailbox ever since.

Re: Trim tabs

Perruturs;

Once you choose the set from the application chart (use ours on our web site as it is the most current) you will get an actuator with a specific pressure (ie: 60 Lbs.). After that you can adjust the pressure mechanically by changing the position of the actuator on the plate bracket (where the actuator attches to the plate). On the SX series you move the actuator from one hole position to another ( ie; from hole 3 to hole 1). This changes the leverage point against the actuator, and either makes it more or less difficult to push the plate up. Consequently you get more lift with more resistance, and less lift with less resistance. This adjustment allows you to fine tune the system to you boat.

In short there are two methods for increasing or decreasing the pressure, the actuator, and the adjustment.

Please note that this not change the initial deployed angle of the trim plate.

Re: Trim tabs

When I look at the Smart tab selection chart, they spec boats up to 240hp and 22" in length. Why is this? Does this mean they won't help my Larson 228 LXI with 270hp 5.0GXI?

Jdeagro,
I gotcha. I was just pointing out to Shadbones that he has to pick a pressure for the shock when he orders initially. I think he is thinking he can achieve all three pressures 40-60-80 with a single adjustment.

thanks all
Ya' I'll order the 80lb set and adjust from there. but with 10' of snow on it. It'll be awhile. Sorry I posted this in the wrong topic selection.

Re: Trim tabs

I understand the confussion and was trying to explain the adjustment options. Sometimes it is dificult, in fact most often. We set limits to the application to make sure you don't pick a 7"x8" plate for a 24' boat, as an example.

How much trim tab you need is realy dictated by the balance of the boat. We have installed ST1290-80 on 27' boats and they work fine.

Typlically a 12" x 9" plate is sufficient for boats as long as 26' to 27' depending on the balance and the weight of the boat.

We try to keep the applications limits within the Optimum range. Moving a little outside the range does not mean that they will not provide good results, it only means that they may not provide Optimum results.

Given the thousands of boat styles, and then adding to that the individualization once the boat is sold to the first owner, it is near impossible to creat a more specific chart. At least I am not smart enough. Anyway, that is the purpose of the adjustments.

We would be happy to listen to anyone who may have better ideas. it will help us all.

I installed a set on a Chap 236 SSi for a friend, 320 Volvo, they work perfectly.

I love em. They took my 16 ft aluminum fish and ski from nearly disfunctional to the other end of the spectrum. This is one of the best products I've purchased and the staff (who I met personally) are just plain Good and honest people
