I have a 1978 Century 23 foot cuddy 350 260 hp I am wanting to install a set of stationary trim tabs. They have no instructions on where to place them. I called the company but they don't make them anymore or have any instructions. would like to see if they would help keep the nose down at slower speeds. But I dont know where to place them or at what angle thought someone may have some experience with them.

Re: trim tabs

Throw them away or sell them on ebay and get your self a set of smart tabs. If they don't make yours anymore that’s telling you something right there!!

Re: trim tabs

install them just above the line of the hull, about 1/2 an inch. as close to the chines as you can get them, a good place to start is where the chine meets the hull. the adjustment is different for every boat. start with them slightly down and test/repeat.

paulie - Why throw parts away? You must be very wealthy. Thinking of the physics involved here, this can't be too difficult a project.

The alignment problem was fixed by Don I didn't realize once you got the alignment tool in you had to tap it to get the gimbal bearing lined up. I ended up with the new style mounts and no shims.

Well, ok don't throw them away, but I would never advise somebody who has little or no experience with boat setup and tabs to start drilling holes in there transom to fit 'stationary' tabs, we don't know why he wants to install them, we don’t know what type of tabs he has. The fact that the company who made them can’t supply fitting instructions, won’t help him and doesn’t make the tabs anymore makes it pretty clear to me that they either don’t work or were of a poor quality, (just my opinion, doesn’t make it so…) With his little or no setup knowledge the best advise is still to fit the smart tabs, they come with detailed instructions and are a proven performing product with good backup support from the company who makes them.
