My engine will not stay up under power. It will stay up with no load on it. I installed a Mercury oring kit in it, but still have the same problem. What should I try next?

Would you know if the checks located in the piston are the ones you are refering to? I wonder if they would come in a Mercury kit #809879A.
Thank You for your help.

BBB

I'm only 70 miles from Kitty Hawk, so I guess we are kind of neighbors. I from around the big historical city of Edenton, NC.

Re: Trim & Tilt 125 Mercury

Is that a single ram trim/tilt? Three-ram units have two rods sticking out to push on the bracket. There was a single ram unit during early production of these 125s that had a very high failure rate (60% is probably a conservative estimate). The problem was in pre-assembly cleaning. If any of the aluminum filings were left behind, the pump saurfaces would score and the motor would leak down as you describe. Nothing to do but change the pump which is NLA after the manufacturer told Merc to Shove It. Not that it's entirely Merc's fault the vendor produced crap units. But Merc has an unerring way of burning bridges when it comes to former vendors.

Re: Trim & Tilt 125 Mercury

Hey I'm famliar with "King Gouge". I'll make a long story short. They charged me approx. $1200.00 labor to try to get my 2001 125Merc. Saltwater to idle. This is just the labor I paid them, (Mercury paid for the parts), and I should have taken them to court because they never got the problem as a whole repaired. I wouldn't take my worst enemie's boat to these guys. Maybe you have had better luck than I had with them. I can't afford to let them jack-asses mess with my engine anymore.

wow
most all I ever delt with them was ok. I did some work there as a contract tech in the mid ninties. thats a lot of labor for an idle problem, was it a rebuild ?

No it ended up being carburetors, & check valves replacement. I think I took it back 4 times that covered a period of 3 months. Hell they kept the thing more that I did that spring and early summer. I think they did a lot of farting around and charged me for all of it.

It is a single ram unit. It carries a 125 Saltwater and carries 2002 year model decal on the engine. I think it is the checks in the piston as everything else looke real good. I can't say a whole lot about Mercury's help in the matter.
