Had an electrical problem with tilting down recently. Fixed that yesterday (just a break in the wire) and now the motor sounds great. But the leg still wont tilt down. It has been in the full "up" position for two weeks and there is definately oil in the system. Im stuck now! Any ideas?

Not to sound dumb, but there is a safety lever on the port side of the engine, is it by chance in the up position, if so, it will not allow the motor to drop!!!!!!?

Also make sure that the tilt tube is lubricated.

Mine was rusted out and the engine would tilt up fine, but it would not go down.

Had it repaired for $500!!! :(

Hope this helps.

Kenny

Hey, Gary, I've learned in my time that there are NO dumb possibilities with boat engines. Indeed I did have to check that the support was down before I tried it. Alas, it was! Thanks anyway.
I dont think it can be the tilt tube lubrication, KennyKenCan. In fact, the most perplexing aspect of this is that the leg only rebelled after I brought the boat back in from the water, during which time, I had gone a little shallow and had to raise it and then lower it successfully when I found deeper water. Any other thoughts?
