Ok this is probably an easy question for you guys, I just got a boat with power trim and tilt a mercruiser and I need to know what the difference between trim and tilt are they look like they do the same thing when pushed??? Alothough It seems that the tilt buttons only work now and then??? Also I have a gauge for the tilt and trim, and I need to know how to read it, and use it?? the gauge goes from tilt to trim with lines in between the tilt and trim. Does this just show where my tilt/trim is?? so like if it is in the middle does that mean my outdrive (prop) is basicly at no tilt/trim, just level with the bottom of the boat (straight)?? Also why does the gauge say tilt and trim on it and not up and down like the buttons do?? So is the tilt side on the gauge up or down etc... and I dont think the gauge works without the engine started so I can really get a good look at the outdrive?? Thank you guys, I am just trying to understand everything!

Re: TRIM TILT GAUGE.......

tilt and trim are 2 different things. if you press up on the tilt/trim switch the outdrive will trim up. that is slowly move away from the transom. when it is trimmed as far up as it can go the tilt mode kicks in this will raise the outdrive up for beaching or trailering. the opposite is true for pushing the down button on your switch. as for the gauge, this is boat specific. you need to get out on the water and fiddle with the trim to find the proper setting that allows your boat to achieve the proper rpms and ride the best. check your gauge when you are doing this. eventually you will be able to adjust the motor by looking at the gauge. hope this helps a little

lingcod
