New motor to me and had labor day problems ;-(

Issue...
Has run perfect and trimmed/tilted as expected. Today put the motor up at end of day and went up fine. Flipped the trailering brace /lever and dropped the motor a sliver to rest on the lever. As soon as I did this the trim motor stayed making awful grinding type sounds. Very consistent sound but much louder than it should be. The motor doesn't trim tilt AT ALL now. Just makes loud sound when switch is hit up or down.

Never dealt with trim systems much. Pulled the full plug and seemed like it was underpressure. Some fluid came out. ..not allot. ...very light milky looking but still very oily.

If the pto on the trim pump was a gear I would say the great is stripped....that's the sound its making. Trim pump? Whatever the trim pump hits? Thoughts? Tests I can run for more info?

Thanks guys

milky fluid could be foam from air mixing with fluid(low on fluid),
or water in the fluid.

as far as the grinding noise, maybe remove the T&T motor to see what you find

Yeah.. I thought the easiest diagnosis would be to remove the pump and just check if its turning or not. Turns out for my motor I have to remove the motor from the hull in order to remove the trim pump. Two bolts have easy access....the third is impossible without removing the powerhead or the motor from the hull. Was hoping to be able to diagnose a little further before that level of work.

Could you manually lift the motor to take all the weight off of the trim rams and then try to operate it?....just to be sure the weight of the motor isn't somehow causing a bind on those rams.....are ram tips greased where they contact motor?....

Motor was manually tilted down then up and is now on the safety rests. The rams went down when I lowered the motor and and now in and not moving. Got oil today and confirmed it is indeed full. The inside of the trim pump seems to have "tore" itself up for lack of a better term. It seems to be spinning crazy fast and acts like there is absolutely no resistance on it. I have conceded that it most likely is the pump.

Now another issue. When I bought the boat the previous owner stated the motor was an 87. The serial number is 90ETLJ which based on my research makes it an 86. Problem is I cant find a pump for an 86

RAAA

The numbers on the plate are 90ETLJ 6H1 and 456569

The numbers on the back of the trim motor are 00317 301 0030 and RK-0707

This is identical to mine

My plan is to just order a replacement before I pull the motor in order to pull the trim motor. That way if I pull the motor and determine, in fact, the trim pump is not turning on the PTO then that's it. If it is turning and it is something else ill return the new part.

Last question for now. Although not ideal, is it ok to run the boat as is for the time being. Its salmon season here in the NW and I hate to miss it. I was thinking I would use the manual screw to put the motor down then tighten it and go out for the day. At the end of the day use the manual screw to raise it back and muscle it up and put on the safety latches and tighten. Is that ok?

Thanks guys. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

should be OK, but not trimming can be done and if you run into problems on the water you will not be able to lift the motor
