trim/tilt question

I have a 40 hp johnson with trim and tilt. Im having trouble with the trim/tilt, can I remove the fluid and use the boat without the trim and tilt and just raise and lower it manually just by passing the trim/tilt ? Also I know it locks when raised up but will it lock in the down position as well. I just dont have the money to fix now but still want to use the boat. Thanks for your time. Tim

What's your tilt/trim doing? It may be something as simple as needing more fluid and purging

I could not lift the motor up after fishing Sunday. I did find the release screw tonight will work on that tomarrow

Is the trim motor kicking in and it's just the motor doesn't want to raise?

Reggie, the motor is working but nothing is moving.Taking to a mechanic later this week to see what the damage is.
