Hello

I have a problem with my tilt trim. It made a awful screaming noise when pulling up and down.

After a month i stop working at all, and here i am.

I have checked the electrical system and ive got 12,7 V. When i push the butten up or down it shows ca 9,5 V, but i can just hear a clicking sound in the releys. No movement at all.

Ive also have checked the red fluid, and it came out of the hole when i opened the screw. This happend when the engine was in upper position.

This is a 1987 mod Evinrude 70hp.

I hope you can help me or at least give me some tips.

How much does a new tilt engine cost??

Thanks

Fredrik_lie@hotmail.com

Fredrik Lie Norway

Fredik..... Trace the wires from the PTT electric motor back to a connector, and disconnect it. Apply jumper cables from the battery to the two wires leading to the electric motor. Hooking the jumper wires up one way would make the electric motor run in one direction, reversing them would make the electric motor run in the opposite direction.

If the motor does not run when the jumper cables are attached, the electric motor is faulty.

If it doen run and the PTT operates but you still hear that squealing, I would suspect that the nylon bushing in the upper portion of the center tilt cylinder is jammed solid with corrosion and rust. If so, it will require removing the bushing, cleaning, greasing etc.

Let us know what you find.

Dry bearings (bushings)in a small motor might make a screaming, (squeeling, screeching,)sound.

Perhaps the T&T pump motor may have failed. A drop in voltage when energised would indicate a high load as a frozen motor would. Try removing the motor from the pump assy if possable, and try it.
