Trim/Tilt - Slow Drop

I have a 1992 Bryant with a Merc 305LX and a Alpha 1 drive. The trim and tilt are a separate button on the gear shift. If I tilt the engine all the way up then the outdrive will stay in the up position. However, if I only tilt the engine the engine will fall back down over a period of hours/days. I am also getting what appears to be water in my trim reservoir. Any suggestions on the best way to fix this problem? Do I need to replace the entire pump? Are the 2 problems related?

Re: Trim/Tilt - Slow Drop

If water is getting in, pressure is probably getting out. I had this problem last year with mine but mine didn't matter if it was trimmed all the way up or down. It would stay up long enough to trailer it somewhere but after a day or so it would fall all the way down. I took it to get the trim rebuilt and they guy found when he took it apart, that all he needed to do was clean it up and put it back together. It's been fine ever since. Not sure what he found or saw but that was all it was. If your unit works, you don't need to replace it. At worst case, get a new seal kit for it and rebuild it.
