hello all. fng here with a question about trim and tilt 1st what does it mean? 2 why do you need to change the trim and tilt? on my boat I have now a 1971 ash-craft with a 1973 evinrude 65hp I know it is a manual adjustment on the trim and tilt and I do not like the way it rides in the water. the front comes to high out of the water. question. do you kick the prop out or in to the boat to bring the front down when your running.?

Trim adjusts running attitude, in will lower the bow. Tilt lifts the engine up for trailering,

I don't believe that engine has power tilt/trim (which is what we usually refer to when we say tilt/trim). Having power trim lets you adjust the engine down/forward all the way to help with hole-shot (the thrust angle is more downward, resulting in more upward push on the stern). Then when the boat gets on-plane the engine is trimmed up to it's normal running position. You're also able to adjust engine angle to compensate for loading or operating conditions, trimming down a bit in heavy chop will give a smoother ride at the expense of some speed.

In your case it sounds like you just need to adjust the trim down/forward a little bit to get the bow down.

your correct this engine does not have power trim/tilt, but there is a pin that looks like it would adjust the way the engine sits/tilts on the mount. I don't have a clue what these parts are called. when you say adjust the forward/down are you talking about the bottom of the motor where the propeller is? my goal is to have the boat ride as close to level as it can at any speed.

If your trying to bring your bow down, you should adjust your prop forward or closer to your stern.

roger that. so should I bring the prop away from the boat or closer to it? in order for the boat to ride level?
Closer to it to bring the bow down. Riding level will require some experimenting with different holes. Will vary with different speeds and loads.
