I've mounted my 1988 100 hp Mercury O/B on a newer hull but I don't have the wiring harness wired up to anything on the new hull yet. I basically left the entire harness attached to the o/b from my old boat. I'm trying to engage the power trim to trim up the motor by completing a circuit at the harness connector, but it's not working. Can someone tell me what ciruits need to be completed to do this? What I've tried so far is to connect the power wire (red) to the trim-up wire (blue & white). But I get nothing with this. I've verified that I do have power by crossing the red wire with the black (ground?) at the harness. I assume the trim pump is grounded on the engine block. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Blue=sky=up, green=grass=down, red=pos. The red is fused, you might have blown it. Otherwise you're on the right track. Red to blue for Up, red to green for Down. The blue and green have white stripes, the red might have a purple stripe.

Thanks Willy,
I think I've figured it out. It looks like I've got a sticky solenoid (both up and down humm...)
-Joe

Re: Trim up wiring

Probably just one bad, but maybe two. Voltage passes thru both relays for both Up and Down. One bad relay could cause problems in both directions. I might suggest getting two new ones, but plug one in first to see if the problem goes away. If not, try switching the new to the other old and put the first old one back in. If it turns out one is bad, chuck it and put both new ones in. Save the good old one for the future. Or save money and just replace the bad one. Buying two might save time and gas to the dealership for a second relay. I hope this didn't totally confuse you.
