I don't know why, and I hope it's not like the starter. Okay so I got the trim to finaly go up, and now it just clicks in either direction. Is the pump bad or could it be something else? Any advice will be strictly adheard to this time I swear! (Don)

Thanks, Chris

Yup. I had this problem last weekend until I got back there and popped off the main 3 prong plug and brushed the heck out of it. Worked like a charm afterwards.

With vague questions you get vague answers. Perhaps if we knew what you were working on people could be more specific in what to check. All trim and tilt systems are not the same.

sorry it was 0 dark 30 and I was in a hurry, its an 83 bayliner 225 with a volvo pena 305. I'm not sure if the trim set up is original, the previous owner had made some comment about it possably being aftermarket but he was unsure. It looks like something from the local tractor supply place.

thanks that's very sound advice, I will and get some cleaner and anticrosive on them too. as I remember it was covered in grease when I looked at the pump.

Look at the main power wires going to the relay box on top of the tilt mechanism. There should be a large fuse connector and a small one. The small one is ok since you can hear the relays click, but the larger fuse holder has the fuse for the main power for the tilt motor.
You can also test the motor itself by using jumper wires on the 2 wires at the motor, buy jumping them straight to the battery.

Man I cant believe I didn't think to use jumpers... Well it turned out that there was a 10amp circut breaker on the pump housing, and someone spliced in a fuse holder on the main power, only instead of using a butt connector the wires were twisted and taped. I fixed it appropraitly but have no idea what amprage fuse to use, have been using 30's but when you get to the trim all the way up it pops.
