I have a 93 mercruiser 4.3L. Since I’ve bought it I’ve always had to hit the the trailer (trim) button for a few seconds to raise it before I could use the trim button on the throttle to raise it. Tonight we were out and had it trimmed up a bit coming in to dock so I trimmed all the way down to bring nose of boat down. Went to raise it up to trailer it and it just clicks. Got juice to it cause it’ll go down but won’t go up. Had to leave it in a slip because couldn’t trim up. It just clicks when trying to go up. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

Outboards in my arena have relays activated by the trim switch, one for up another for down. Relays are exact same parts and swapping slots tells you it's the relay if the problem follows the relay. since you at least hear clicking, the trim switch should be ok. I don't know where Mercruiser puts their PTT relays so I can't help there.

There are 2 solenoids on the trim pump . . . 1 up and the other down. Sounds like the one for 'down' needs replacing.

The above posts are referring to the relays that send power to the solenoids. They are not too difficult to troubleshoot if you're handy with a VOM and not afraid of a little electricity. I would first try to swap the "up" relay with the "down" relay, and see if your issue follows the relay. They should just unplug. Sometimes there is a screw or a clip holding them in place. If the relay is the issue, then swapping will at least allow you to get out of the water.

I was able to arc it bypass the solenoid and get the motor up. Now just have to replace the solenoid and I think it’ll be good. Are they pretty common or do I need specific ones for different pumps

very common and inexpensive... as suggested, replace both of them... in my experience, the worst part of the job was crawling into the God awful places they install them.... if yours is ease of access... your lucky

Anyone got a parts number for these solenoids?

Why do 'we' always have to do the research :D I believe this is the trim pump you have . . .

The same solenoid is also for the starter . . . I usually keep a couple on the boat in the spare parts drawer :)
