I have a 2000 Triton TR17 with a 120HP Force, this boat is rated for a 130 HP motor but i notice that Neither Force or Mercury make a 130, force has a 125 & merc makes a 135, would it DQ my insurance if i put a merc 135 on my boat? Thanks

I think your insurance guy is the one to ask.
Probably 5 hp wouldn't matter.Are Mercs the only brand where you are.E/J have a 4 cyl. 120.
beginning in the late 80s earlier 4s are available in 125,115,120,Yamaha has a 115 and a 130.
While a 115 surely will be slower than a 130 it would be difficult to tell without a speedo or gps.

Understand that 5 or 10 horsepower--even 15-- is not going to make a major difference. Maybe 3-5 MPH at WOT. Even considering Merc. vs. Force. And, you can squeek another 2-3 MPH out of your Force just by changing an aluminum prop to a stainless steel prop.--say, 150 used then another 100 to repair it.

To spend up to a couple of thousand for 3-5 MPH is really difficult to justify. You would do much better to maximise the set-up you have in terms of prop, engine height on transom, trim and say, set back, if you wanted to buy or make a jack plate.
