Hey guys,

Thinking of purchasing a 2004 Triumph 191 Fish Ski with a 140 Johnson (4 stroke). GOOD Fish/Ski boats are far and few, especially descent ones. Some look more like a ski boat that they threw a trolling motor on top. Some are strickly fish with a tow bar on back that they consider a ski boat. Anyone knowledgable with this particular model or know of any that are close to same setup?

Got a couple of questions/opinions on a few things....

Any input on this Roplene hull, good, bad??

Any input on the 140 Johnson (4 stroke)? I have owned an evinrude, yamaha and merc with no problems. Not to sure of these Johnsons though.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Nice boat. Great layout. The 4 stroke Johnsons are rebadged Suzuki's.

Suzuki motors have had thier day in the sun years back, not sure where they stand these days. I know Johnson has been around for at a half century or so(I think). Seems motors of choice in O/B are Yamaha, Evinrude and Mercs. Not sure if its quality or pricing that pushes these brands.

Re: Triumph 191 Fish/Ski

My parents have a 195DC Triumph with 150 Yamaha 4 stroke. It's a great boat, especially if you aren't big on maintenance (plastic hull). They are supposedly industructable, and I'd believe it. With the 150, the boat will hit 42 (gps) with 2 people. They pound pretty hard in chop with the 16 deg deadrise and light weight. The upside is they draft very little (I believe 14").

For lake fishing (trolling), it's a great setup. The rear seats pull out so you can get right up to the transom. There's room for two down riggers, 4 would require additional brackets made. All plastic floors so easy clean up. For bass fishing, it's not as great as there's no casting platforms. For pleasure boating, it's OK for 2-4 people. The rear seats are small and no side support, so I'd say they are limited in use. There isn't a ski pylon, though there may be an option to add one. We used transom tie down points with a harness to go around the motor to pull a tube. There's no sun pad.

All and all, I think they are well made boats. I personally like the shine of gelcoat better, but I also don't mind waxing it periodically. The rental places around here like them because you can't hurt them.

Hope that helps, it's not the exact model you are looking at, but I think the 191 and 195DC are close.

Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Re: Triumph 191 Fish/Ski

Duck,

So this boat will not be a comfortable ride with 2/3 ft seas (lake)?

I know because of its light weight, there will be draw backs. but taking a beating was something I may not get used to or else limit when i can fish ??

Thanks for replys guys,

My grandpa-in-law has a 17' CC Triumph and they are great hulls. Perfect mix of tough construction and convenience.

The 19' will handle 2-3 footers fine in my opinion. Roplene is a durable material and you can really beat up on the boat with no ill effects.
