Trolling Indicator doesn't move

The other day, the water was low at the lake and I ran the bow of by boat under the pier when trying to pull up to it. When this happend, it pulled apart my Minn Kota all terrain 40LB bow mount motor where the lower shaft slides into the upper shaft. I was able to loosen two set screws on a collar and put the shaft back together. Now, the indicator on top doesn't work. I have pulled off the plastic indicator and there is a little gear it sits on. This is not turning when the motor turns. Any ideas why this is happening?

James,

Is yours a cable steer or Power Drive?

If it's cable steer, the indicator is operated off of a gear that is turned by a chain.

If you take the ideicator off and remove the cover (screws come up from the bottom) you'll see how it works.

I worked on it today. I guess when I hit that peir, it pulled apart the shaft and broke the plastic pieces that hold the cables in place and the gear that drives the indicator fell off. (All at the top of the unit). I made a new housing to hold the cables out of a steel strap from a radio installation kit and replaced the indicator gear. It all seems to be working perfect now but, I haven't tried it in the water.

James,You need to get the right parts to replace, the cables put a lot of pressure on this connection and it needs to be right

I replaced plastic with steel. Are you sure I need to go back with the original plastic parts? If so, where can I buy them. I would have to have the entire bottom of the head because the plastic part that broke was molded into it. If you have any idea where I can buy parts and what the cost I would love to know. It is a Minn Kota All Terrain 40.
