I have a motorguide 24 volt 71lb. thrust trolling motor and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what brand and sizes of batteries to buy for it. Also if you know of any places that I can go to find a good deal on batteries please let me know.

thanks

Re: Trolling Motor Batteries

I usually recommend that people buy the largest capacity they have room for. You cannot buy too much power -- just too little. Capacity on deep cycle batteries is shown on the label as "Reserve Minutes: xxx @ 23 amps". The larger the xxx number is the longer the motor will run. The 23 amps is simply the measurement point and will generally be constant among the battery manufacturers. I would think you want either two group 27 or 31 batteries. 31's are heavy and a little more pricey. As for where to get them, I buy mine at our local farm store (called Fleet Farm). The work fine and are much less expensive than buying them at a sporting goods store. There are other farm stores around the country so if you live in a very large city, you may need to check some smaller cities in your area for farm stores.

Call your local battery whsle, mfrs and ask for blemish batt.
they are perfectly good, most of the time the slit on the side for a handle is deformed.
