I had a MotorGuide Trolling Motor with a slide in bracket (like the one in the attached picture) on the bow of my 1996 Four Winns Horizon. The footprint on the MotorGuide brought the front out far enough to clear the bow angle nicely. My new Minn Kota PowerDrive V2 doesn't have this luxury. I want to add a metal plate to canterleaver the motor out over the bow. I'm thinking about using 3/8" 6061-T6 Aluminum Plate. Probably about 6"-8" of the base of the trolling motor would be resting directly on the plate, i.e. hanging in the air in front of the base. I added extra screws to the base (6 instead of 4) to help with the additional strain so I think that should be OK. Any thoughts if the 3/8 will be strong enough?
