I have a old jon boat i am fixing up into a duck/fishing boat. My plan is to have a light bar up front during duck season that connect into the trolling motor plug, that I can remove during fishing season and connect the trolling motor.
My question is there any problems with running the trolling motor plug back to the breaker panel then to a switch(so i can control the light bar during duck season) then to a separate battery.

thanks

There may be an issue. The lights may draw more amperage than most switches can handle. It would be best to leave the heavy cables (troller) where they are, install a solenoid and install the switch to operate the solenoid.

That sounds complicated but it is actaully very simple. This is done all the time for high intensity lights on off road vehicles.
