Need feedback re how much trulling motor thrust I need for my 198 R. Would like to stay at 12 volts, but the max thrust is only 55 lbs. Need to go to 24 volt system for 80 lbs. thrust. Would like to know what others are doing in this regard. Will be using trolling motor only for bass fishing. Thanks

Re: Trolling Motor for 198 R

I have a 75Lb thrust Motorguide wireless for my FDGS 202, came with it as a dealer throw in so I didn't pick it. For fishing I'd say a 55lb thrust would move mine just fine. Guess it depends on how much 4 x4 your doing with the boat. If your going to encounter a lot of hydrilla et al I'd go for the bigger unit if not I think a 55lb will do fine. My thought is it's better to go a bit bigger, of course until I see the price tag.

you can run through the sizing wizard at Minn Kota to get some idea but I'm certain a 55lb would work just fine on your 198. It'll give you some detailed specs but a 20ft deck boat a 55 would be the right size in my opinion

I have a 198REF and put a 75 Motorguide (salt water) series "wireless". It takes 2 batteries but man............it'll throw a wake wide open.

Can be operated from anywhere on the boat with a fob on my belt or from the foot control which is wireless and will move anywhere on the boat. I can run the boat along the shoreline while others sit up front and cast to the bank for bass here in Florida.

It was pricey, but worth it.
