Any suggestions on the minimum horsepower outboard for a 24' cuddy (apprx 5000 lbs.) for trolling? I have an old 5 HP but suspect it might not be enough. I just need to push it 1.5 MPH. Also, any recommendations on a swim platform mount for the outboard?

Thanks
John

Should work ok for fishing on inland lakes. None of the big lakes or any lake with currents though.

Hi, John.

I think 5hp would push your cuddy at 1.5mph with no serious seas, winds or currents.

But I also think a troller should be capable of acting as an back-up to your main powerplant should it fail.

I would want at least 9.9HP, better 15HP for that task.

Good luck. :)

On a calm day your 5 hp will push it just fine.
But add a little wind and waves, and you will find
that you won't be able to control that much boat.
9.9 or 15 hp would be your best bet.

That's what I thought. Guess I'll be looking for a bigger outboard. Thanks for the help!

John
