Trolling motor install questions

I just picked up a used 24 volt Kota trolling motor. Does anybody have a diagram/picture or can explain how to start by hooking hooking everything up? Want to make sure I do it right the first time! Thanks

Have no idea what motor you have. If it is just electrical information you need then you need two deep cycle batteries wired in series to provide 24 volts. You will also need a two bank on-board charger to charge them immediately after each use. And No! -- You cannot charge those from the motor. You can use a portable 12 volt charger rather than an on board charger but you need to charge each battery separately. Here is a wiring diagram. The size of the circuit breaker depends on the size of the motor. At 24 volts a 50 amp breaker is probably needed. Again -- knowing what you have would help. If you mount the motor on a quick release plate so you can quickly remove the motor for security and storage, then you need a two prong plug and receptacle for quick disconnect of the electrical connection.

Thanks Silvertip! Exactly what I was looking for & very helpful. Should give me enough information to start my install & was mainly concerned about all my wiring hook ups. FYI: the motor is a 70# thrust & has a quick release plate.
More than likely I will just be using a portable charger to charge the batteries. The only question that I would have remaining is where would I install the 50 amp breaker?? Thanks again!

See where it says "fuse" on the diagram? right there -- within six inches of the battery. Just like your house it either has fuses or circuit breakers. They do the same thing.
