Trolling motor: Leave on boator bring inside?

I have a new-to-me boat that came with an older MotorGuide trolling motor, the kind with the pedal that has the cable inside to turn it (not digital). I'm not really a big fan of the cable steer trolling motors, I prefer a tiller/hand control.
Anyway, the thing is bolted to the front of the boat and is a real pain in the butt to remove and reinstall. Does anyone leave theirs on the boat and if so, how do you protect the pedal (since it has all the electronics in it for speed control and all that). Or, should I be unbolting it and reinstalling it every weekend?

Actually, I don't have a boat cover, never had one before....but that IS a solution to the problem isn't it!

Thanks for the tip !!

There are a multitude of quick release plates that allow removal of the motor in a matter of seconds.
