When I bought my boat it came with a Mercury Thruster II. I took the prop off, untangled some fishing line and put some new grease on the shaft. It works and I want to keep it that way. Any thing else I should do for maintenance? It is a foot pedal unit.

Re: Trolling Motor Maintenance?

I did a thread on Trolling motor failure and it seems stamping on the foot control seems to be a big problem ...followed in old age by water ingress ..so removing the prop and removing line is a good start as well as putting some good lubricant on the seal shaft area ..personally I use stop leak for auto gearboxes as it will expand the seal when it gets worn to the point where water may get in. I dont think its an anual strip down that is called for maybe new brushes and seal after 5 years but how much do you use it ??? difficult to put hours of life on the brushes maybe 1000 hours
