I am wondering what is my best option for an emergency trolling mitr for my boat. It's 20 plus years old and I just don't want to be stranded if something gos wrong on the lakelQuestion is how big of a trolling motor would I hav to have tio get me back to the dock, or should I get a small gas motor either 2.6 hp or 5 hp that I can e to get back home . Which would work to push my boat. Thanks.

Ayuh,... I'd think settin' anchor, 'n callin' for Help would be the Safest bet,...

A 5 hp motor, Might push her alright, dependin' on wind, waves, 'n currents...

An auxilary outboard that would get you home through tough conditions would need at least 15HP, IMO.

9.9 to 15 hp are common on that size boat for both trolling and get home. Might go smaller, but when the wind kicks up on your nose, you might not go anywhere.

I agree with the 15 hp gasoline kicker... a nice quiet 4 stroke.
