Just a thought, try the Merc web site for questions and answers, then e-mail them.

Re: Trolling Motor PLEASE HELP

I am not an expert by any degree but I have the very same TM you have. I have found over the years the cables stretched and when (quickly) moving from right to left or vice-versa it would cause the cables to come off the little pulleys under the foot control. If you flip the foot control upside down you'll see there is a small nut on the cable thru a bracket. You can loosen the front (pulley side nut) and tightent the nut on the back side of the bracket. Just be careful in how much you tighten it. It will cause the head to get off center...which isn't a problem in and of itself because you can just twist the shaft in the holder. If that doesn't help you please respond and I'll go take mine apart and take pictures for you so you can have a solid understanding of what I am talking about.
