Trolling motor plug

I have an older bow mounted minn kota trolling motor. I'd like to add a quick release sort of plug so that I don't have to disconnect all of it from the battery when I remove it. I have my battery tucked away so its hard to connect/disconnect. Would something like this work. Seasense plug and socket accessory. Or should I go with something else? All I know about it is that it says 12 volts on it and that what my trolling motor is. Thanks!

Re: Trolling motor plug

Arkman, you cannot use that type of plug. It has nowhere near the current handling capability required by your trolling motor. You need a standard trolling motor plug and receptacle available anywhere boating supplies are sold. The wire between the receptacle and the battery must be eight gauge minimum and prefereably 6 gauge.

Silver tip is right. ( Like there was any doubt ;-)) Your motor is going to draw WAY over the normal 5-10 amps those connectors can handle. Probobly something closer to 40 amps (depending on size) Your local walmart should have both sides for $7 each. That's what I use.

Make sure you make GOOD connections!
