I picked up a trolling motor to put next to my big outboard. However now I have it next to the motor it seems a little tall. I looked on the Minn Kota site and I went w/ the 42" b/c I was right at the boarder of the cut off for the 36". I've never had a trolling motor so is it suppose to run the same depth as my big outboard or shallower? (The small motor on the left side of the photo will not be there much longer)

It sure is tall but won't be bumping into things.
I would raise it to a point just before it breaks the surface in normal operation.
Low enough it doesn't strike the hull if you turn it too far.
You might consider rigging a bow mount.

Wow that looks as a XXXXXXL size. When correctly height seated on transon will surely need to climb on a ladder to steer that long trolling motor. LOL!!

Happy Boating

I think I'm just going to return it and get the 36" shaft. I would go with the bow mount but my father in law wants to use it on his duck boat so I have to stay with transom mount.

Your mounting bracket can be configured in any direction
Doesn't need ti be like a normal transom.
Your adding more weight at the transom with a troller and a battery.
I think your pressent kicker is about 40 lbs.

Unless you're running in very shallow water, I wouldn't worry about the depth of the TM. Just drop it into the water with the head adjusted to the height you like and go fishing. The good thing about having that long TM is that you can raise it to a height you can reach while standing. probably have to tilt the head a bit, but at least you could stand and cast while operating the TM, and not have to crouch to reach the TM.

The only issue I can see would be the stowed position of the TM, is it going to cause issues with the driver seat when the TM is in the stowed and locked position?
