Ok so whats the difference between a 2 and 4 blade prop? Does it matter or is it all about lbs of thrust

Re: trolling motor prop?

Props are designed for specific purposes. A three blade prop can be just as effective as a four blade. A two blade can be just as effective as a three blade. It is all in the design and the application. Selecting a prop is a real trial and error process and must include factors such as how much power do you have available, type of hull, and what you want the motor/prop/setup combination to do. Yes -- everyone wants maximum speed and maximum hole shot. If that's what you want, you need to compromise.

Re: trolling motor prop?

I have MG 2 blade power prop and a 3 blade weed prop. While I don't have specific data, subjectively, the 2 blade feels like in grips better and pulls harder (slightly). The 3 blade is better at clearing weeds, but thats what it is designed for.

Guess you answered your own question -- eh!! But on the other hand the performance difference might be because the pitch is different on the two props. It may also be due to the motor not having enough power to utilize the three blade prop. There is no free lunch when it comes to props. Speed and power (thrust) are always a compromise whether on a trolling motor or a gas outboard or I/O.

Re: trolling motor prop?

My question???

The MK and MG that I'm familiar with, are made for the diameter of the motor or a model range specific for it. They are all very low pitched props, because the electric motor must hit the rpm it is designed to run at or will quickly fry. You can't load an electric motor. It is all prop slip. I am not aware of any electric trolling motors where you can select from prop pitch.

As far as the two I have, the pitch looks about the same. The two blade has a larger outside diameter and overall more blade area than the 3 blade.
