Trolling motor voltage

Is there any problems if I buy a 36volt trolling motor, but only run it on two deep cycle batteries?? Obviously, the length of time for running power is shortened when only using two batteries, but are there any other problems? I'm not sure, but I'm assuming that it's not absolutely necessary to have 3 batteries.

Re: Trolling motor voltage

Again- as pointed out in the other thread- running any electric motor on current below its specified voltage rating can severely shorten its life. The armature is rated to carry the voltage, not the amperage. The motor will run slowly and then overheat and burn up.

Don't do it.

UFM82

Re: Trolling motor voltage

Most trolling motors these days use pulse modulation to control motor speed. If its a 36V motor, it needs 36V to operate properly. You will be unhappy if you try this.
