I have a 35 lb thrust Minnkota that jerked my old boat around when on speed 5. The new boat is the same size (15 1/2 ft)fiberglass and it barely moves. All five speeds work well and the motor seems fine. The battery is brandnew and fully charged. The wires are 8 or 10 gage. the boat weighs 1600 lbs. There is an inline fuse just before the battery that is lighter wire. Is this fuse necessary? or what else could be my problem.

Re: Trolling motor wiring

Hi Zaxxon. That 8 or 10 gauge wire is too light. You need 6 gauge at a minimum. Also if the fuse wireing is lighter, that needs to be changed too as that is your weakest link. I would leave the fuse in the system though. It will protect your motor from an excess amp draw. Hope this helps.
