That's like asking if Ford or Chevy is better. (Personally, my answer is neither, I'm a Dodge guy). I think the answers you get will vary based on personal experience. I've got a Minn-Kota Power Drive that I regularly dunk in the Gulf of Mexico (which some will say is not as salty as the Atlantic) that is fine. I wash it off after use and it's never let me down. Others have had prob's with Minn-Kota and will swear by MotorGuide. I think either will do the job well if maintained and cared for.

it has been my experience that if you regularly use any trolling motor in saltwater it wont last more than a year or two. i have been through several and so have some friends of mine. even the really expensive saltwater ones just dont last with the saltwater and the extra pounding that they get on rough water. maybe someone else has had better luck, but the longest i have had a trolling motor last in saltwater was about 2 years and it was a basic freshwater motorguide.
