Trolling motor

How do I pick the battery for my trolling motor in a way that I get the best power/lasting performance??
My boat it is an older fiberglass about 14' long with a 55# transom minn kota 12 volt
less than a year old weight on board about 250 to 300#

you want a deepcycle battery. the higher the amps the longer it will hold a charge.

Deep Cycle batteries have a label on them listing the RESERVE CAPACITY or RESERVE MINUTES: XXX @ 23A load. The higher that number is the longer the battery will last. You want a group 27 (the physical size) as a minimum. You should also charge the battery immediately after every use regardless how long you used it that day.
