I am not sure, but this will probably be moved but I was confused as to were to post this so here it goes.... I am planning to purchase a new trolling motor and was looking into the auto pilot minn kota or the new remote control minnkota. Has anyone had any type of experience with any motor. Please respond, because I am looking at opinions... Thanks!
Oshi
Oh yeah, the motor will be used for a Ranger boat and I will be running a 24 volt setup, probably between 65 and 74 pound thrust.
Thanks

Re: Trolling motors???

Ahoy, Oshi.

I have used Minn-Kota Power Drive, Auto Pilot and Genesis motors. All were/are very good motors.

Because Minn-Kota's first try at wireless control was an unqualified disaster I am in a wait and see mode about the Co-Pilot wireless.

The cable on the three I mentioned would reach anywhere in my 17' boat, so I can control from the stern or the console if I choose.

I suggest you avoid the Co-Pilot version for a while. If they prove out okay, you can upgrade later.

Re: Trolling motors???

I just purchased a 65# autopilot and had a powerdrive before. The thrust is great for pushing around a 20Ft fish and ski, i don't think i have ever been in a situation where i didn't have enough power. I never really thought that the autopilot was necessary, until i had it, then i wouldn't want to go back to not having it. I think the co-pilot idea is neat and all, but if you are fighting a fish, it seems easier to spare a foot to control the boat rather than taking one of your hands away from the pole to do it. The only reason it sounds nice is that i could give the remote to my fishing partner to control the boat while i am fighting a fish or putting on another rig. i would like to see a wireless foot control system with a spare to keep at the back of the boat. Like JB said, if you get the autopilot, you can always upgrade to the co-pilot later. good luck with your decesion.

Steve
