Trolling Motors?

I presently have a Motorguide 41 lb. thrust,<br />(1991) model. Works great, except in the wind. I'm going to buy a new one, for sure. I'm leaning toward a Model 767 Brute, 67 lb. Appreciate any opinions about this product.

dont know much about trollers but i think there is a boat weight ratio guide or a dealer will tell you what is right for you

Sandy, manowar is right - the type and size trolling motor you need depends on the size boat it's going to be used on. Also, you need to figure in the conditions and environment of the place it will be used, i.e. river, lake, farm pond, etc. Will it be used to push or pull the boat? As a tournament bass fisherman the best advise I could give you is to buy the highest thrust motor your boat and pocket book can handle. Remember you get what you pay for. To go along with the trolling motor you also need a set of good quality deep cycle batteries that are well maintained.

Don't know much about trolling motors, but I certainly agree with Mitch on the batteries. I also would stay away from speed controls that use rheostats.(very ineffecient) The ones that use "Pulse Width Modulation" will take you much further if you're utilizing variable speed.<br />

I had the same motor on a 17 foot bass boat and it didn't do crap in the wind. Switched to the one you chose and it works great. I fish larger lakes and knew better on the first motor but it was a package boat.

Battery maintenance is easy....Keep the electrolyte level up(add distilled water when needed) Keep the top clean (reduces parasitic drain and corrosion) Monitor charging system voltage (pending on ambient temp. should be between 13.8 - 15V) Be sure of a secure hold-down bracket(reduces plate material vibrating loose) Keep posts and cable ends clean and covered with grease(if corrosion is visible, submerge cable end in a mixture of warm water and baking soda)(grease will seal out Oxygen and reduce corrosion). Disconnect cable or switch off disconnect switch if not in use. Store in a cold enviroment if not being used for extended periods (increases shelf life) and every so often, slow charge at a rate less than .5% of the cca rating for atleast 48 hours. Although this seems extreme, a battery can live 7-10 years if properly maintained. Worst thing!!.....do not leave it in a discharged state for any length of time!!! Do not leave it in a warm enviroment for long periods without recharging.<br />
